India is bordered by three different masses of water, the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean, so you shouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are many beautiful beaches on the coast of India! These beaches are magnificent to visit; they resemble little enclaves of tropical paradise. Forget all of those other popular beach destinations; the beaches here are some of the most beautiful in Asia and maybe even the world.

The beaches in the popular southwest state of Kerala are some of the best in the country. In fact the whole state of Kerala is breathtaking, it is known as ‘Gods Own Country’. If you want to know more about the beauty of this state see our blog ‘Kerala – God’s Own Country’’. Kovalam beach is one of the most popular and developed beaches along this part of the Malabar Coast. It is covered in endless coconut trees (the literal translation of Kovalam), and nothing seems more tropical than coconut trees! Marari beach has also gained popularity, though it is a lot quieter than Kovalam. Most of Kerala’s beaches offer yoga classes and Ayurveda treatments.

One of our favourite beaches in Kerala is Varkala. It’s not as crowded as Kovalam nor as quiet as Marari. It is the only place in south Kerala where cliffs run parallel to the beach. You can even stay right on the cliffs and have the most amazing view out across the Arabian Sea. It is believed that immersing yourself in the waters of this beach will wash away all of your karma!

Goa is known mainly for it’s beautiful beaches. Picture this: crystal blue water, white sand and lush greenery, and top it off with beach restaurants serving fresh food and refreshing drinks at all times of the day. You’re in Goa. At midnight the water is still warm, it’s truly majestic. Among the most popular beaches in Goa are Arambol, Palolem, and Anjuna. Anjuna is famous for its huge weekly flea market. Locals offer dolphin cruises at most of the beaches; jump in a sturdy wooden boat and you’ll be taken out to sea. If you’re lucky (and most people are) you’ll have dolphins swimming around the boat! You may even see dolphins when swimming close to shore. Our previous blog ‘Goa, A West Coast Beach Paradise’ will give you more information on this gorgeous little state.
